David Barrineau

David graduated from the Good Samaritan year long program in October of 2015.  David has had a long road here at Good Samaritan Ministries and other rehabilitation centers here in Richmond and in Florida.

David had himself hooked on prescription and across the counter drugs.  He was taking about 9 to 10 pills a day.  His first encounter with GSM was in 2012 when he completed the program but felt that he could handle his old life again.  He left under the assumption that all was well when it really wasn’t.  He drifted and decided that maybe he should try a different ministry and different environment.  He did not want to be seen again by the same people when he was fighting the same battles.  He attempted a stint with ROC and found that it takes more than an environment change to take away the desires of his body.  He had some disagreements with an overseer at the ROC and he left.

He wanted to get back to where he felt he was really being helped.  He tried back at Good Samaritan but there was no room at the time so he would have to wait.  He was a little impatient so he went back to Florida where he had been once before.  Dr. George bought his bus ticket.  He went to a recommended facility called Talbot House.  They got him dried out and supplied him with job placement.  He was doing well.  However, it did not last.  He was hanging out with the wrong crowd who made it easy for him to slip back into his old habits. He started using at work causing some supervisory and management issues.  He decided to take a leave of absence.

David was really unsure of himself and was trying to make the decisions without God.  He moved around quite a bit, to different rehabilitation facilities.  One was with the Salvation Army facility called Adult Rehab Center.  He tested positive for drugs and was asked to leave.  Then he moved to the Trinity Rescue mission but decided to move back to the Talbot House in Lakeland, Fla. where it all started.  The chaplain at the Talbot House bought him the bus ticket.

David then moved to a house that gave him a good job but the money was kept by them in an account for him to use but not to squander.  He rented a room at a rooming house which became his demise again.  He started using even more pills (approximately 40 per day). Nothing was working because he stopped going to church, reading his Bible and praying.  God was not a part of his life.

David finally decided to come back to Good Samaritan in October of 2014.  He really felt guilty and depressed because he knew he had to start over again.  When he arrived he made it a point to wait to see doctors so he would not be given the opening to start on pills again.

“I’ve landed where I really need to stay.  By the grace of God I am still alive.  Good Samaritan gives me the tools and instructions.  All I have to do is take these lessons and use them as God wants them to be used.”

David graduated on October 25, 2015 and currently works with GSM as a Nighttime Desk Clerk.

Isaiah 48:17

“Thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, I am the Lord thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.”
